The University of Winnipeg has named Dr. Jino Distasio as Interim President and Vice-Chancellor.
Distasio will temporarily take over the position starting Friday, replacing Dr. Todd Mondor, who was released from his position in late November.
Distasio has been a leader with the University of Winnipeg for over 25 years, serving in various roles, including more than 10 years as Vice-President, Research and Innovation. He also recently led in the roles of Acting Provost and Vice-President, Academic and Acting Dean of Science and Kinesiology.
“The Board is grateful to Dr. Jino Distasio for stepping into this role during this important time of transition,” said Michelle Pereira, Chair of the Board of Regents. “His experience and steady leadership will help ensure the University continues moving forward with confidence.”
Distasio is also known for his strong community involvement and expertise in areas like urban policy, poverty and inner-city renewal.
A formal search for a permanent president will begin in the new year.
