Mounties are urging drivers to stay off highways in southern Manitoba due to worsening road conditions and reduced visibility.

As of Friday afternoon, a stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway between Portage la Prairie and Headingley remains closed following multiple collisions, including two significant pileups near Oakville around 11:20 a.m.

RCMP say crashes occurred in both the eastbound and westbound lanes. One of the collisions involved at least five vehicles, including a police cruiser.

Emergency crews, including EMS and local fire departments, are working at the scenes, and have been transporting individuals to hospital. According to RCMP, no serious injuries have been reported at this time.

Conditions continue to deteriorate, and police are encouraging motorists to delay travel until roads improve.

RCMP are coordinating with local emergency services and tow-truck operators to manage the response.
