A Winnipeg foster parent previously charged in a child abuse investigation has been re-arrested and is now facing additional charges.
On November 24, 2025, a 26-year-old man was taken into custody and charged with assault with a weapon and failing to comply with an undertaking. The new charges stem from another child who reported being assaulted while in the man’s care.
The Winnipeg Police Service’s Child Abuse Unit continues to investigate the case, which began in September 2025, when officers were called to a home in the north end of the city after a report of a child with serious injuries. That child was taken to hospital in critical condition with life-altering injuries.
Three other children in the home were also transported to hospital for medical assessment. One of those children showed signs of being assaulted and was listed in stable condition.
Investigators determined that the child who was critically injured had not received immediate medical attention between September 17 and 18.
On September 19, 2025, police arrested two foster parents in connection with the investigation.
A 25-year-old woman has been charged with aggravated assault, assault, and failing to provide the necessities of life. She remains in custody.
The man who was re-arrested in November was originally charged with failing to provide the necessities of life and had been released on an undertaking.
Police have not released the names of the accused in order to protect the identity of the children involved.
