Extreme cold forces school closures, bus cancellations across Manitoba

Frigid temperatures have led to several bus cancellations and school closures Thursday morning.

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning, with wind chills expected to drop as low as minus 50 in northern Manitoba.

In the south, including Winnipeg, wind chill values between minus 40 and minus 45 are expected, even during the day

As a result, some schools have closed due to the extreme cold, while others have cancelled buses.

School closures

Division scolaire franco-manitobaine -Aurèle-Lemoine (Saint-Laurent), Saint-Lazare, Jours de Plaine (Laurier), La voie du Nord (Thompson) are closed
Fort la Bosse School Division– All schools are closed
Interlake School Division – All schools are closed
Lakeshore School Division– All schools are closed
Pine Creek School Division– All schools are closed
Red River Valley School Division– All schools are closed

Calvin Christian School – Country and shuttle buses are not running
Damesh School in West St. Paul – Buses not running. All schools are open.
Division scolaire franco-manitobaine – Buses are not running at École Saint-Joachim (La Broquerie), École Réal-Bérard (Saint-Pierre), École Sainte-Agathe, École Pointe des Chênes (Sainte-Anne), École Saint-Jean-Baptiste, École Lagimodière, École Gabrielle-Roy, École Notre-Dame de Lourdes and École Gilbert-Rosset.
Faith Academy – Bus 18 coming from Stonewall has been cancelled.
Mountain View School Division – All rural bus routes are cancelled due to the extreme cold. Dauphin In-City buses (IC-1, IC-2 and IC-3) are still running. Schools remain open
Louis Riel School Division– Most buses are running. However, delays are expected.
Park West School Division– All buses will not be running.
Portage la Prairie School Division – All buses will not be running. All schools will be open
Prairie Rose School Division – Region B & C buses are cancelled.
St. James Assiniboia School Division– Buses are running. However, delays are expected.
Swan Valley School Division – All buses will not be running.
Springs Christian Academy – The shuttle bus will not be running in the morning.
