It’s going to cost Manitobans a bit more to heat their homes this winter.

This week, the Public Utilities Board approved an application from Centra Gas that will see rates increase by 1.1 percent.

This means the average household will pay around $7 extra per year.

The rate is due to the change in the Purchased Gas Variance Account balance this quarter, which has been partially offset by a decrease in the forecast cost of purchasing natural gas over hte next 12 months.

According to the PUB, Gas Commodity is sold on a cost-recovery basis, so Centra passes the cost directly to customers without making a profit.

The new rates taek effect February 1, 2026. Rates will be reviewed again on May 1.
