A Warrant of Arrest has been issued for a male from Winnipeg in connection with a 2025 head-on collision that claimed the lives of three individuals on Canada Day.
Matthew Govereau, a 37-year-old male was driving his vehicle when it veered over the center line and hit a parked vehicle on the opposite shoulder. The 42-year-old male and a 31-year-old female, who were in the parked vehicle, were both taken to the hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
A 29-year-old male passenger riding with Govereau, was also taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
18 charges were laid against Govereau on January 20, 2026 relating to the collision and the weapons and drugs recovered from the vehicle. The charges include:
- Impaired driving causing death x3
- Dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death x3
- Careless driving x3
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Possessing a prohibited weapon
- Weapon possession contrary to order x2
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Possession of drugs for purposes of trafficking x3
- Possession of a controlled substance
RCMP have not been successful in locating Govereau. He is known to travel through the province regularly, including the City of Winnipeg. If seen, the public is advised not to approach him.
