Manitobans have rallied together to support the family of one of the young women who died in a tragic car crash near Winnipeg Beach a week ago.
On Monday, Jan. 27, Selkirk RCMP say a vehicle was travelling south on Highway 8, near Whytewold Road, at around 12 p.m., when it collided head-on with a vehicle travelling north.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, 26-year-old Samantha Zimmerman from Gimli, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 20-year-old from Winnipeg Beach, was transported to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Zimmerman’s cousin, Brandie Nicholls, started a GoFundMe campaign over the weekend to help her family as they deal with this tragedy.
“Samantha was taken from us far too soon and leaves behind a family who loved her deeply,” said Nicholls in the GoFundMe. “Her family and partner are devastated by this unexpected loss and are now facing the emotional and financial burden that comes with saying goodbye to someone so young and cherished.”
Nicholls said Samantha had a kind heart, a beautiful spirit, and brought so much laughter and love to everyone who knew her.
“Samantha’s light touched so many lives, and her absence is felt more than words can express.”
To help her family get through this difficult time, a GoFundMe has been created, with all funds going directly towards helping Samathan’s loved ones.
“If you are unable to donate, we ask that you please consider sharing this page and keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers,” said Nicholls. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, kindness, and support during this painful time. We are forever grateful.”
