Two people are recovering following a fire Sunday afternoon in a Point Douglas apartment complex.

The fire broke out just after 3 p.m. in an 11-storey apartment building in the 800 block of Main Street.

Smoke was coming from inside the building when crews arrived, and firefighters were able to quickly locate the source and put out the fire about half an hour later.

The blaze was contained to the suite where it started.

Most people in the complex sheltered in place, while others were evacuated with help from firefighters.

Two people were assessed at the scene, with one person being taken to hospital in stable condition.

Residents of the building were able to return after firefighters ventilated the smoke from the building.

There is no word on what caused the blaze. Fire officials continue to investigate.
