Toba Centre for Children and Youth held a special comfort kit drive over the weekend.
Winnipeggers were invited to donate items for children and families accessing support through the Toba Centre, which was created in 2013 to provide a safe, child-friendly setting for children impacted by abuse or witness to violence and their caregivers, ensuring their well-being and recovery.
The drive was held to collect items they would typically include in comfort kits, from pyjamas, sweatpants and sweatshirts, to gift cards for special outings to swimming pools and theatres.
“These kits contain essential comfort items that help children feel supported during difficult moments,” said the Toba Centre. “The Comfort Kit Drive creates care packages that provide moments of comfort and reassurance during their journey.”
Winnipeggers were able to donate through a drive-through drop-off and were treated to Valentine’s Day-themed goodies, including red velvet cupcakes from Salisbury House and a warm drink.
Although the drive has ended, the Toba Centre says they accept donations all year round
Some of the donations they collect include, clothing basics (pyjamas, t-shirts, sweatpants, sweatshirts/hoodies, toques, mitts, scarves), shampoo & conditioner, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, games, decks of cards, colouring books, markers/crayons, fidget/sensory toys and gift Cards (bowling, movie theatre, activate, swimming, Skip, Uber, restaurant, gas etc.).
