Classes are continuing as usual at Garden City Collegiate Tuesday morning.
On Friday, the school reported that they had found graffiti written in a school bathroom referencing a shooting threat toward the school for today.
The Winnipeg Police Service was contacted, and a thorough investigation was conducted.
On Monday, the school updated families, saying the investigation found no threat to public safety and that the validity of the threat could not be confirmed.
“Our school will be open Tuesday; classes have not been cancelled. However, we understand and respect the decisions as parents and caregivers regarding your children’s attendance at school,” said the school in a memo emailed to parents, guardians and students. “Our staff will be here to support, teach and care for your children.”
The school says it will have increased and monitored supervision at its front entrance doorways and will continue lock all side and back doors throughout the day.
“Our four Divisional School Police Resource Officers will be at the school beginning at 8 a.m. and for the duration of the week to provide a presence of safety and an abundance of care for our community.”
This incident is one of several recent school threats reported in Winnipeg over the past two weeks.
