A 20-year-old man is in custody following a shooting incident over the weekend.
Winnipeg police say that at around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, officers were called to a hotel in the 300 block of Kennedy Street after reports that a woman had been shot by a male suspect.
Both the victim and suspect left before police arrived at the scene.
Investigators later learned that the 32-year-old woman and the 20-year-old suspect were in a hotel bar when they began arguing. Things quickly escalated, and the man allegedly shot the woman in the upper body.
Despite her serious injuries, the woman left the hotel and went to hospital for treatment.
Police say the two were previously unknown to each other.
At around 7 p.m. the same evening, the suspect also went to hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot-related injury. He was quickly identified by officers as the man involved in the shooting, arrested, and turned over to the Major Crimes Unit.
The 20-year-old man is charged with several offences, including aggravated assault and pointing a firearm.
He remains in custody.
