A two-year-old boy at the centre of a Manitoba Amber Alert on Friday has been safely located, and two people have been arrested, Winnipeg police say.

Constable Stephen Spencer told reporters during a 2:30 p.m. news conference at police headquarters that officers received a call just after 10 a.m. about a child taken from a home on Chesterfield Avenue following a dispute involving the boy’s biological mother.

Spencer said the dispute involved violence and a weapon, which heightened concerns for the child’s safety and contributed to the decision to issue an Amber Alert.

The provincewide alert was sent at 12:59 p.m.

At the time, police did not know whether a vehicle was involved or where the suspect was headed. Spencer said the suspect is not a family member of the child.

Around 1:30 p.m., police received a call about a child matching the description in the Amber Alert in the area of McPhillips Street and Logan Avenue. Spencer said the caller recognized the boy and one suspect because of details shared in the public alert.

Officers responded and safely located the child.

Spencer confirmed two people have been arrested. He said investigators are continuing to gather information and are consulting with the Crown attorney regarding potential charges.

The child was not physically injured, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
