Two women are facing abduction and assault charges after a 2-year-old child was taken from their home in Winnipeg on Friday, prompting an Amber Alert.
Police say just after 10 a.m., they were alerted of an assault that led to the child’s abduction. Officers arrived at the St. Vital residence and learned a dispute broke out between the child’s biological mother and two women, ages 30 and 25.
The mother was assaulted and the child was taken from the residence
Police say the suspects took the child by taxi to a strip mall near McPhillips Street and Logan Avenue, where a concerned citizen, having seen the Amber Alert recognized the suspects and the child. The citizen took the child from the suspects, brought them to the safety of their vehicle and waited for officers to arrive.
An Amber Alert was broadcast through Manitoba just before 1 p.m. and the child was found about half an hour later.
