One person is unaccounted for following a fire late Saturday evening.

The fire broke out just after 11:30 p.m. in a one-a-half storey house in the 600 block of Nassau Street South.

Winnipeg police officers who were in the area were the first to report the fire.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the home when firefighters arrived.

Crews battled the blaze from inside the home but were forced to withdraw due to worsening conditions.

They transitioned to an exterior fire attack, using an aerial ladder and hose lines to get the fire under control.

No injuries have been reported. However, one person remains unaccounted for.

Winnipeg police officers and WFPS crews remain on scene at this time, searching the structure.

The house sustained extensive smoke, fire and water damages and is believed to be a complete loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
