A special dog rescue by Winnipeg firefighters earlier this week has turned into a heartwarming new chapter for one of the pups.
Nick Kasper, president of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 867, shared on social media earlier this week that four dogs were found hiding behind a downtown dumpster.
“Our firefighters immediately brought them back to the station to get them out of the elements and contacted our partners in Winnipeg Animal Services,” said Kasper. “The dogs were given food, water, warmth, and plenty of well-deserved attention until Animal Services arrived to ensure they were safely cared for.”
The union later learned that the dogs, two of which were foster dogs, had escaped from their yard. The owner was notified, and the dogs were safely returned.
One of the rescued puppies captured the heart of UFFW executive board member Adrienne Hobbs and her family. They decided to make the bond permanent, welcoming the pup, now named Hally, into their home.
“This story speaks to what it means to be a Winnipeg firefighter: a constant commitment to helping those in need in our community, no matter how many legs they may have, on or off the truck,” said Kasper.
The union says they couldn’t be prouder of their crews and the compassion they show every day.
“We’re very excited to meet Hally.”
