One person has died following a house fire in Lord Roberts on Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Monday, December 29, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a house fire in the 700 block of Nassau Street.

A man and woman in their 60s, and a woman in her 30s was able to self-evacuate and taken to the hospital. They have all been treated and released.

Crews located a man in his 40s deceased in the residence. “They lost an incredible young man—my cousin’s fiancé—who did not make it out of the home. He was deeply loved, and his loss has left an immeasurable hole in our hearts,” Meagan Gervais said on the Go Fund Me.

The house was also home to a chocolate lab and four cats. While fire crews were able to retrieve the dog, she died following complications from the fire. The three cats are still missing, as of 12 p.m. on December 30.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up for immediate living expenses, rebuilding and recovery costs, funeral and memorial expenses, supporting the family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time, and outstanding vet bills.

The blaze was declared under control at 4:14 p.m.

The home sustained significant damage from fire, smoke, and water. The investigation continues.
