A teenage boy has been charged in connection with a homicide that left an 18-year-old woman dead in a north Winnipeg home early Saturday morning.
Winnipeg police responded just before 7:30 a.m. on February 14 to a residence in the 500 block of Young Street where officers located a woman who had succumbed to her injuries. The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.
The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Avontai Hartleib, a member of the Sachigo Lake First Nation who was residing in Winnipeg.
On February 17, investigators identified a suspect in the case. A 14-year-old male was arrested and charged with second degree murder and criminal negligence causing death. He was detained in custody.
No further details about the circumstances of the incident have been released at this time as the investigation continues.
