A 14-year-old girl is recovering after being stabbed while walking to meet up with someone in St. Boniface Saturday evening. 

Winnipeg police say the girl was walking near Niverville Avenue and Champlain Street at around 9:45 p.m. when she was confronted by a group of unknown females, assaulted and stabbed.

A resident in the area came across the injured girl and contacted police. 

When emergency crews arrived they located the injured girl suffering from serious injuries. 

She was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

The suspects fled before officers arrived and police do not yet have a description.
