21-year-old charged after Meadowood knife attack leaves woman critically injured

A 21-year-old man is in custody after an attempted murder in Meadowood over the weekend. 

The Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a Domestic call for service where one woman was stabbed and another was threatened. 

At 4:45 a.m. on February 28 in the 300 block of Meadowood Drive, the 21-year-old suspect, armed with a knife began to stab and assault his 21-year-old girlfriend without provocation. 

An 83-year-old woman witnessed the altercation and attempted to intervene. She was threatened and physically assaulted by the man. The elderly woman was able to contact the police.

Shortly after 5 a.m., East District General Patrol officers arrived and provided lifesaving first aid to the victim, including applying chest seals and tourniquets. She was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where she remains.

The suspect was located at the residence and placed under arrest. He was later turned over to the Major Crimes Unit to conduct the investigation.

The 21-year-old man has been charged with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Two counts of Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm 
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Assault
     

He was detained in custody. His name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victims.
