A 29-year-old Portage la Prairie Man is facing numerous charges after allegedly stealing a grader from the City of Portage la Prairie Public Works garage and smashing it through a fence.

Portage la Prairie RCMP say the theft took place just before 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the man standing near the machine.

The 29-year-old, who was believed to be under the influence of a drug,  refused to listen to the officer’s demands and resisted arrest, fighting with officers and EMS personnel.

Once officers were able to detain the man, he was transported to hospital where he was treated for a non-life-threatening injury and released.

He now faces a long list of charges including operation while impaired on a drug and theft of a motor vehicle. He remains in custody.

Portage la Prairie RCMP continue to investigate.
