Prayers are being answered for an infant we first told you about earlier this week, who has spent his entire life in hospital.
Colter, the son of CHVN listener Krystal Kiss, went home on Friday, just in time for Christmas.
“We are so grateful for all the prayers we received from CHVN listeners,” said Kiss.
A long medical journey
The original plan was to have Colter, who is 11 months old, go home over a week ago, but an infection developed, delaying his return home.
Things improved over this week, and by Friday afternoon, he was home.
Colter was born at just 25 weeks on Jan. 3, 2025, after Kiss experienced a placental abruption.
“I had to have an emergency C-section, and he was born weighing just 1lb, 13oz,” said Kiss.
He went through four surgeries, including heart surgery, hernia surgery, a tracheostomy, and he is being fed through a G-tube in his stomach.
Life at home comes with challenges
Kiss, who also has a set of two-year-old twins and a six-year-old son, continues to ask for prayers for strength and energy as Colter will require round-the-clock care.
“It’s a lot. And then also because we actually live outside the city limits, it’s challenging to get some of the services provided or covered, especially with his trach and G-tube,” said Kiss. “Twice a day, there is all this care that needs to be done, and he’s one of just a handful of kids in all of Manitoba who is being sent home on a ventilator. There’s just a binder full of everything that needs to be done with him.”
Although the journey ahead may be a difficult one, Kiss says she’s beyond thankful to have her entire family back together in one place.
Anyone interested in helping the Kiss family as they move forward onto the next chapter can do so through a GoFundMe set up by their neighbours, or by reaching out to Krystal personally on her Facebook page.
