Police have arrested a suspect in the 2021 arson-related homicide of 44-year-old Faye Sanderson, whose death was initially linked to a deliberately set fire.
On September 21, 2021, emergency crews responded to a fire at 510 Young Street shortly before 8:45 a.m. Sanderson, a member of Mosakahiken Cree Nation residing in Winnipeg, was found deceased inside the residence.
The Winnipeg Police Service says that investigators quickly determined the fire was deliberately set, and foul play was involved.
After an extensive investigation, police identified a suspect who was previously known to the victim. Manitoba Justice approved a warrant for second-degree murder.
On March 4, 2025, Winnipeg police, with assistance from the Edmonton Police Service, arrested 35-year-old Kendra Leanne Sinclair at the Edmonton Institution for Women. She remains in custody.
Police say the case remained a priority, acknowledging the pain it has caused Sanderson’s family and community.
They also thanked those who provided valuable information throughout the investigation.
