Lace up your skates! The Riley Family Duck Pond at Assiniboine Park has officially opened for the season.

However, the fun doesn’t stop there. The cross-country ski trails and toboggan hill are also ready for visitors.

“Winter is a great time to get outside and enjoy everything Assiniboine Park has to offer, from skating and sledding to skiing on our groomed trails,” said Lindsay Hughes, Communications Specialist, Assiniboine Park Conservancy. “The Park offers welcoming spaces for people of all ages to stay active, spend time together, and enjoy the outdoors throughout the winter months.”

To keep visitors warm, the Duck Pond shelter will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., providing washroom access and a place to warm up and rest.

For those interested in skiing, there are approximately four kilometres of cross-country ski trails on three loops near the Duck Pond, the Pavillion and The Leaf.

Meanwhile, for sledding fans, a toboggan hill is located on the north side of the Nature Playground, within walking distance from the Duck Pond.

Visitors are reminded that although it’s a favourite Canadian pastime, hockey sticks and pucks are not permitted on the Duck Pond. Skaters are also asked to stay off the ice while plowing and flooding are underway.

The busy skating location will remain open as long as the weather allows.
