Family, friends, colleagues and community members are invited to attend a memorial on Friday to celebrate the life of Dr. Barry Lavallee.

Lavallee, an Indigenous physician who was best known for supporting First Nations people and the CEO of Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin, passed away unexpectedly in January.

“His powerful voice commanded attention,” said Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin in a statement. “He was a fearless advocate for those who faced injustice and harm, and he fought tirelessly for First Nations people. He spoke up for those who could not and left an impact that will be remembered.”

The celebration of life is an opportunity for the community to gather to remember and celebrate Lavallee’s leadership, compassion, and commitment to First Nations health and wellness.

The memorial will take place on Friday, Feb. 13, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Victoria Inn Hotel & Convention Centre, 1808 Wellington Avenue.

The event will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend.

“All are welcome as we gather in gratitude, reflection, and remembrance.”

The organization says details about a foundation award in Lavallee’s honour will be released in the coming weeks.
