A yellow-level fog advisory remains in effect across southern Manitoba Saturday morning, with Environment Canada warning that near-zero visibility continues to impact travel in many regions.
Issued at 7:28 a.m. Saturday, the advisory covers communities from Virden and Souris in the west to Steinbach, St. Adolphe and Vita in the east, including Winnipeg and surrounding areas.
Portions of southeastern Saskatchewan are also affected.
The advisory was cancelled this morning for the Arborg–Hecla–Fisher River–Gypsumville–Ashern area, but persists elsewhere across the southern half of the province.
Dense fog developed overnight due to light winds, high humidity and clear skies. The impact level remains moderate and forecast confidence is high, according to Environment Canada.
Motorists are being urged to exercise caution as visibility may suddenly drop to near zero at times, creating hazardous conditions on roadways. Drivers are advised to turn on headlights, reduce speed and maintain a safe following distance.
While conditions are expected to improve gradually through Saturday, fog is forecast to return to many areas again Saturday night.
Environment Canada continues to monitor conditions and may update the advisory as needed. Residents should stay tuned to weather reports and travel forecasts as the situation evolves.
