An early morning fire shut down a busy street in the St. Boniface area Thursday morning.

The blaze broke out just after 3:30 a.m. in a vacant, single-storey industrial building on the 0–100 block of Archibald Street.

Heavy smoke and flames were pouring from the building when crews arrived on scene. The fire was so intense that crews were unable to enter, and instead, they launched a defensive attack, using aerial ladders and handlines to douse the blaze.

The building suffered extensive damage. Due to structural issues and to help with hotspots, the WFPS is arranging an emergency demolition of the building.

No injuries were reported.

This is not the first time this property has been damaged by fire. It was also set ablaze in September 2025May 2025 and November 2023.

Archibald Street remains closed between Mission Street and Narin Avenue. Once it does reopen, motorists are being encouraged to use caution as the street is expected to be slippery.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and find an alternate route.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
