An Elmwood area convenience store employee is recovering after being assaulted over the weekend.
Winnipeg police said in a press release that a 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman walked into a convenience store in the 400 block of Talbot Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday. They became involved in an argument before assaulting the clerk with various items from within the store.
The assault came to an end when someone entered the store and called the police. The suspects fled before officers arrived.
After watching security footage and while speaking with the store clerk, the suspects returned to the store and attempted to make a false claim that they had been assaulted by the employee. They were subsequently arrested.
The 37-year-old male suspect has been charged with assault with a weapon and remains in custody. The female suspect is facing a charge of assault with a weapon. She was released on an undertaking.
The investigation is ongoing.
