Two people, including a Manitoba resident, are dead, and at least 19 others are injured following a bus crash in the Dominican Republic.
The crash occurred on Sunday in the municipality of Villa Hermosa, as the bus was en route to a resort in Santo Domingo.
According to Dominican Today, one person died on impact, believed to be Colleen Fullerton, 67, of Lockport, Manitoba, while the other died in hospital.
Fullerton’s husband was also injured in the crash. However, the extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.
The Canadian Embassy posted on X on Monday, saying that they’re aware of the tourist bus accident involving Canadians and said they’re in contact with local authorities.
“We recognize the stress this situation may cause impacted individuals and loved ones and are providing consular assistance,” said the embassy. ” Canadians in need of emergency consular assistance can contact our Emergency Watch and Response Centre, available 24/7.”
The bus was operated by a third-party provider, Nexus Tours. The driver, who worked for Transporte Ismael, is in hospital with serious injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
