A former Winnipeg teacher is facing several new charges while in custody at Headingley Correctional Centre.
In November 2024, 37-year-old Matthew Mousseau was arrested on sexual assault and exploitation charges.
The Winnipeg Police Service says in October 2024, the Sex Crimes Unit entered into an investigation after a student came forward and shared information.
Winnipeg police say the survivor, who is now an adult, reported that between May 2019 and August 2020, when she was a teenager, she attended an afterschool program within the Seven Oaks School Division.
Investigators determined that Mousseau had been employed as a teacher in several schools in Winnipeg until May 2024, but is no longer a teacher.
He was charged and taken into custody.
As a result of an ongoing investigation, Internet Child Exploitation Unit investigators also discovered evidence of sexually exploitative conversations between Mousseau and young females, as well as sexually exploitative imagery. Investigators identified additional offences involving four survivors between 12 and 17, leading to several new charges.
Most recently, while in custody at Headingley Correctional Centre, ICE investigators found even more evidence and charged Mousseau with five new offences including:
- Makes, Prints, Publishes or Possession for the Purpose of Publication any Child Pornography
- Luring a Person Under 16 years of age by Means of Telecommunication
- Sexual Interference X 2
- Supply liquor to a minor
He remains in custody.
