Frigid cold causing school closures and bus cancellations Friday morning


A number of school divisions and private schools in southern Manitoba are cancelling their bus routes or closing schools completely on Friday morning.

An extreme cold warning has sent temperatures plunging across the province, and wind chills have reached -50 in some areas.

School closures

  • Border Land School Division – Ross L Gray School, Pineland Colony School closed. Staff to report as per admin procedure
  • Interlake School Division – All schools closed
  • Prairie Spirit School Division – All schools closed
  • Red River Valley School Division – All schools closed
  • Seine River School Division – All classes cancelled for students, staff to attend the workplace
  • Turtle Mountain School Division – All schools closed

Bus cancellations

  • Beautiful Plains School Division – All buses cancelled
  • Brandon School Division – All buses outside city cancelled. Attendance at parental discretion where travel is required.
  • DSFM – Buses cancelled for the following schools:

    • École Saint-Joachim in La Broquerie
    • École Pointe-des-Chênes in Ste. Anne
    • École Sainte-Agathe
    • École Saint-Jean-Baptiste
    • École Réal-Bérard in St. Pierre
    • Lagimodière in Lorette
    • Gabrielle-Roy in Ile des Chenes
  • Fort La Bosse School Division – All buses cancelled
  • Mountain View School Division – All rural bus routes cancelled, Dauphin in-city buses still running
  • Prairie Rose School Division – Region B buses cancelled
  • Rolling River School Division – All buses cancelled
  • Southwest Horizon School Division – All buses cancelled
  • Winnipeg Mennonite School – All buses cancelled
