Environment Canada has issued a yellow blowing snow advisory for Winnipeg and much of southern Manitoba.

Strong northwesterly winds, combined with falling snow, will lead to reduced visibility across the Red River Valley, including Winnipeg, on Sunday afternoon. Around noon, winds will be gusting between 40 and 60 km/h.

On top of strong winds, the area is expected to see five to 10 cm of snowfall, causing more visibility issues.

Environment Canada is encouraging travellers to be cautious throughout the afternoon as the winds and snow will most likely cause near-zero visibility at times, especially in open areas.

Visibility is expected to improve in the evening on Sunday as the winds calm down.
