Habitat for Humanity Manitoba has welcomed five new families into their new homes in time for the holidays.

One of those families is Jacq and her son, Asher, whose home was sponsored by the Women Build Committee and marks the 22nd Women Build home since 2005.

“We are thrilled these five families get to gather in their new homes just in time for the holidays in thanks to the incredible generosity of sponsors, donors and volunteers in our community,” said Jamie Hall, CEO, Habitat for Humanity Manitoba. “The memories they create in their new home this season will be remembered for years to come, and this investment will have a lasting and positive impact on the families and the broader community of Transcona.”

Their home, along with the four others being welcomed home this week, is located in the Pandora Avenue West development, the largest project of its kind in Habitat Manitoba’s history.

When completed, the Pandora Avenue West development will be home to 55 families. As of now, 35 homes have been completed, with the entire project expected to be finished by 2026.

“Every Habitat home represents more than four walls and a roof, said Habitat for Humanity Manitoba. “It means health, stability, confidence and the foundation for a stronger future.”

Every homeowner involved is required to put in the hard work, time and commitment to help build their home and make it affordable.

“A heartfelt thank you to the Women Build committee members, to Jacq’s coworkers from Online Business Systems, and to the amazing teams from Mortgage Professionals Canada and Emergent BioSolutions who helped build this home during their Team Build Days this summer,” said Habitat Manitoba. “Your generosity and teamwork helped make this moment possible.”

The largest source of funding for building Habitat Manitoba homes is the mortgage payments made by families who are benefiting from the Habitat model. The second largest source of funds comes from donors and groups that collaborate with Habitat in various ways to work alongside the families.

In total, 26 families across Manitoba have received the keys to their new Habitat homes this year. Next year, Habitat Manitoba hopes to build 31 new homes across the province.
