Freezing rain combined with ice pellets, snow and strong winds has led to treacherous driving conditions on Manitoba highways.
As a result, a number of highways have closed on Wednesday afternoon due to icy conditions, and more closures are expected into the evening.
Here are the latest closures as of 8:40 p.m.
- Highway 5, from the Saskatchewan Border to Highway 353
- Highway 10, from Cowan to Highway 16
- Highway 16, from the Saskatchewan Border to the Highway 10
- Highway 20, from Camperville to Dauphin
- Highway 21, from Oakburn to Highway 1
- Highway 45, from Russell to Highway 10
- Highway 50, from McCreary to Silver Ridge
- Highway 68, from Saint Rose du Lac to The Narrows
- Highway 83, from Highway 16 to Highway 1
The province is reminding motorists that closure gates and message signs may not be present at closure locations. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the closed highways and find another route.
Meanwhile, the province is currently monitoring highway conditions and is ready to deploy its fleet of 340 vehicles for snow clearing, de-icing and grading.
