The city’s first baby of the year was born just minutes after midnight at St. Boniface Hospital, according to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
Aileen and John welcomed their baby girl at 12:02 a.m. on January 1, 2026, with the WRHA later sharing the exciting news on Instagram.
The baby girl weighed in at a healthy 3.21kilograms, or about seven pounds.
Her proud parents named her Avielo Carmen.
The announcement continues a long-standing tradition among hospitals and health authorities, celebrating the first newborn of the new year.
