With cold weather starting to settle in, Union Gospel Mission is reaching out to the community for support.
They are calling on local churches and individuals across Winnipeg to partner with them to help meet their critical needs throughout the winter months.
Some items in high demand are men’s winter jackets, mittens and gloves, essentials that are rarely donated, but desperately needed.
“Unlike general clothing, these specific winter essentials are hard for us to keep in stock,” said UGM in a statement. “Many of our guests come to us without proper protection from the cold, and each warm coat or pair of gloves can make the difference between some level of comfort and hardship on the streets, leading to serious health risks, including hypothermia and frostbite.”
UGM says they will pick up items from churches and individuals who collect the much-needed items.
Anyone interested in helping out or learning more can call Munya at 204-979-6191 or email munya.rusere@gospelmission.ca.
“Together, we can make sure everyone facing homelessness this winter stays warm and cared for.”
