Man arrested after church and commercial break-in in Winnipeg

A 44-year-old male is in custody after a commercial break-in and theft from a church over the weekend.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on November 30, a member of the Canine Unit assisting West District General Patrol officers and Air1, located and arrested the 44-year-old suspect in the 900 block of Dominion Street following a commercial break-in and theft from a church in the 1000 block of Ellice Avenue.

Officers responded to the church following the commercial alarm for the report of a break-in. Upon arrival, officers noticed a broken basement window and located a damaged donation box inside the church. It was later learned the suspect fled on foot shortly before officers arrived. 

Multiple units searched for the suspect, who was located by Canine members to Dominion Street, where he was arrested without incident. He was found with an undisclosed amount of money which was seized as evidence.

He has been charged with Break Enter and Theft – Place. He was also arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant for Fail to Attend Court.

He was detained in police custody awaiting disposition.
