A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged with 68 offences following a months-long crime spree across Winnipeg that included vehicle thefts, break-ins, and fraud.
The Winnipeg Police Service’s Property Crime Unit launched an investigation into a string of thefts, primarily in the city’s south end, after numerous reports of stolen vehicles, break-ins at businesses and places of worship, and fraudulent credit card transactions.
The suspect, identified as Travis Freddie Ducharme, is accused of targeting restaurants, gas stations, schools, and other public places between August 2024 and February 2025.
Police allege he stole multiple vehicles, including a 2023 Honda Civic Sport, a 2023 Nissan Rogue, and a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, often after stealing victims’ keys from inside businesses.
The crime spree also included break-ins at a church, a temple, and a music school, where electronics, wallets, and instruments were stolen. In some cases, stolen credit and debit cards were used for fraudulent transactions at gas stations and convenience stores.
One of the most alarming incidents occurred on December 31, when the suspect allegedly entered a parked vehicle occupied by a woman and her infant and stole her iPhone.
On February 12, officers from the Property Crime Unit, along with the Tactical Support Team and the K9 Unit, executed a search warrant at Ducharme’s residence, where he was arrested without incident.
Ducharme faces a long list of charges, including multiple counts of theft, break and enter, fraud, uttering threats, and possession of stolen property. He has been detained in custody.
Police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
