A school in the River East Transcona School Division will soon be home to a new inclusive play structure.
On Monday, Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt announced the province will invest $100,000 into a new inclusive playground at École Springfield Heights School, which recently closed down its aging playground due to safety concerns.
“Playgrounds are more than equipment, they are places where children learn, grow and build friendships,” said Schmidt. “We are thrilled to support École Springfield Heights School and the surrounding community with this investment, ensuring students have a safe, modern, inclusive and vibrant place to play for years to come.”
The new structure will provide a space for both students and families in the North Kildonan neighbourhood.
The project will be developed in partnership with the River East Transcona School Division and the school’s parent advisory council.
“We are deeply grateful for this funding and the support from the Manitoba government,” said Anna Maria Coniglio, chair of the École Springfield Heights School parent advisory council. “This investment launches our playground restoration project, which will connect the school and North Kildonan Community Centre, creating a shared space for children with their families to gather, play and grow together.”
construction timelines will be determined as planning moves forward.
