Morning commute slowed by dense fog, drivers urged to use caution

According to multiple drivers, the roads around and outside of Winnipeg are affected by thick fog Thursday morning.

“Fog is super thick on the south perimeter, and hazards a good idea and in my opinion, regular lights rather than high beams allow better visibility,” says a woman on Facebook at 6:40 a.m.

Another commuter from Ste. Anne, MB, shared on social media that she chose to turn around.

“Fog is too thick and I’m waiting until daylight,” says Samantha.

Andrea on Facebook shared her entire drive was completely affected by fog.

“St. Mary’s on the perimeter to #1 East, thick fog patches at 5:15 am this morning,” says Andrea. “The #1 East was decent until the #206 turnoff, then from there the fog was very very thick and visibility reduced. Closer to #12 it got worse, most people were driving with their 4 ways on. #12 to #311 was horrible, with zero visibility with the fog, I could maybe see a half car length ahead.”

One woman drove from Niverville to Steinbach and nearly got into two accidents with the thick fog.

“I had two near misses: a driver turned in front of me from 216 so I had to brake hard,” says Sarah. “A little further up 52, a driver was passing multiple vehicles and would have caused a head-on with me, but I hit the brakes and veered into the shoulder in time.”

While there is no fog advisory from Environment Canada, commuters are urged to take extra time this morning due to the heavy fog just outside of Winnipeg’s city limits.
