Winnipegger’s waiting for home care services Thursday may be out of luck.

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority says due to today’s weather, it is following steps in its emergency preparedness protocol and will be significantly reducing home care services.

“This means most home care clients will not be seen today, unless they are considered high risk,” said the WRHA in an email. “We will attempt to contact those who will be receiving services during this time; however we may not be able to reach everyone, and a Home Care staff member may arrive at a time that is different than your regularly scheduled time.”

Anyone who does receive service will only have essential tasks performed, and they will likely only be seen once in a 24-hour period.

All other clients are asked to initiate their backup or storm plans until otherwise notified.

“We will be reassessing the situation daily and will advise when home care will resume,” said the WRHA. “This also means patients being discharged from hospital will likely not receive home care
services over the coming days.”

Patients in hospital who do require care will only be discharged once it is safe to do so, or they will be released into the care of a family member or other support person.

Those who require further assistance are asked to contact their Case Coordinator, or if after hours, the After-Hours unit number at 204-788-8331.

“We apologize in advance for any disruption this may cause our clients and their families.”
