Winnipeggers will be able to get on the ice to ring in the New Year.

The Nestaweya River Trail at The Forks will open at 10 a.m. on January 1.

The trail includes two paths—one for skating and the other for walking, running, and cycling. Last year, more than 200,000 users took advantage of the paths in the 68 days it was open for.

Due to the generosity of donors, who have adopted metres of the trail, more than 900 metres have been adopted by individuals, families and corporations at $50 each through the Trail Together campaign.

“The Forks and the river trail would not exist without the support of our community. The Nestaweya River Trail brings a sense of magic and fun to Winnipeg’s winters. It takes a lot of effort every year to bring the trail to life, and we have our community to thank for it,” said Sara Stasiuk, President and CEO of The Forks in a news release.
