A new Christian elementary school is set to open its doors in Winnipeg this fall.

Located in North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, Mennonite Brethren Christian Elementary School will have spots for kids in Kindergarten through Grade 2.

“We just had a burden for the kids in our neighbourhood, for the kids in the area to have a Christ-centred education,” said Paul Boge, chairman of the Mennonite Brethren Christian Elementary School. “I was driving with my mom and dad and just had it pressed upon my heart that we already had a nursery school inside our church, so why not expand.”

Boge says he’s seen an increase in the number of people seeking a Christian education for their children.

“So there are more and more kids who are trying to get into Christian schools but they can’t get in,” said Boge. “There’s an overflow, so it’s an opportunity for people who may not be getting into their own schools to get into one of ours instead.”

Feedback from the community shows that Winnipeggers are excited about this new opportunity.

“It’s really exciting. It’s fun to see how the vision is spreading and it’s fun to see how parents are excited about coming to the school and starting it,” said Boge. “It’s always fun to start something brand new. It’s great to see the passion people have for both a Christ-centred education and also an education that helps kids to be able to evangelize in the neighbourhood.”

The hope is to one day expand to include Grades 3 and 4 as the initial group of students progresses and enrollment increases.

Boge says they are now accepting applications for the 2025/26 school year.

“We’re giving tours all the time,” said Paul. “We’ll walk people around, show them the facility, explain how everything works and share the vision for the school with them.”
