Province commits $1.2M to winter and summer festivals

The Manitoba government is investing more than $1.2 million to support festivals and community celebrations in 2025-26, including over $359,000 for winter events, Sport, Culture, Heritage and Tourism Minister Nellie Kennedy announced this week.

The funding, provided through the Community Festivals and Events program and additional dedicated support for major stand-alone festivals, aims to help communities host events that bring people together, strengthen local pride and stimulate economic activity.

Supporting winter events and year-round celebrations

“Festivals connect people, celebrate community spirit and support local businesses,” Kennedy said in a news release.

“Our government is proud to help communities host events that strengthen neighbourhoods, attract visitors and showcase Manitoba’s culture, especially through Manitoba’s winters.”

The winter festival investments are part of a broader support package that also includes $882,300 in funding for 49 summer festivals, the minister said. Kennedy highlighted the role of these events in boosting local economies and community spirit.

The province said the funding will help communities deliver high-quality events that reflect and honour local character, highlight Manitoba’s cultural diversity and foster a sense of identity and pride among residents.
