Southern Manitoba will experience a noticeable warm-up this week as a mild air mass settles into the region, pushing temperatures well above seasonal norms.
At this time of year, typical daytime highs sit near -9, with overnight lows around -20. Over the next several days, temperatures will climb well beyond those averages, especially through the early part of the week.
The most significant change will be felt over the next 48 hours. On Sunday, mainly cloudy skies are expected as temperatures rise to a high near +1, an unusually mild reading for early February. Southerly winds around 30 km/h, gusting up to 50 km/h, will make it breezy through the day, with a morning wind chill of -12.
Conditions remain mild tonight, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures holding steady close to +1 overnight.
The mild trend continues into Monday, with cloudy skies and another high near +1. While cloud cover will dominate for much of the day, temperatures will stay well above normal before cooling later in the evening. Clearing skies overnight will allow temperatures to drop to around -11, still considerably warmer than the usual February lows.
Beyond Monday, temperatures will trend slightly cooler but remain milder than average for the rest of the week. Tuesday is expected to be sunny with a high near -5, followed by overnight lows near -13. From Wednesday through Friday, a mix of sun and cloud will dominate, with daytime highs generally ranging from -1 to -3 and overnight lows in the minus single digits.
