A Winnipeg community rallied together over the weekend to help out people experiencing homelessness in our city.

St. James resident, Tyler Crichton, initiated the event, encouraging area residents to donate warm winter clothing for the Main Street Project.

“Last year, we got together as a community, and we filled a whole SUV with winter jackets for the Main Street Project,” said Crichton in a post on Facebook. “We were just reflecting on that and were thinking, why don’t we do that again?”

On Saturday, Crichton set up in the parking lot of The Keg at the corner of Portage Avenue and Moray Street for three hours, collecting winter jackets, sweaters, toques, mittens and other winter gear from people living in the area, and it ended more successfully than last year.

“Winnipeggers are the best people,” said Crichton. “We loaded up two SUVs’ worth of winter clothing donations for the Main Street Project. We doubled our donations from last year.”

The team at the Main Street Project is beyond thankful for the generous donation.
