Teen arrested after machete-wielding robbery attempt in Winnipeg

A teenage boy is in police custody after he allegedly attempted to rob a victim and chased him while wielding a machete late Thursday night in the 200 block of Roseberry Street.

At approximately 11:45 p.m., a 28-year-old man reported that he was approached by an unknown male armed with a machete, who demanded his belongings. As the victim ran to escape, police say the suspect chased him while swinging the machete.

The victim’s backpack protected him when the machete struck his back.

The victim reached safety and called police.

Officers quickly located the suspect nearby and found the machete concealed on him.

The 16-year-old male has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, and failure to comply with release conditions (x2). He remains in custody.
