Two male individuals from Winnipeg are facing charges after a vehicle was shot at in William Whyte neighbourhood.

On February 27, at approximately 4 a.m., officers from the North District responded to the report of a vehicle that had been shot at while driving in the William Whyte neighbourhood. Two armed suspects were reported fleeing the area. The vehicle was damaged, but nobody was injured.

Patrolling officers located a suspect who matched the description at Parr/Alfred. The male was in possession of a sawed-off shotgun.

A 28-year-old male from Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences and detained in custody:

  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition

The vehicle was seized for investigative purposes on February 28. A firearm was observed inside. A subsequent search warrant was executed on the vehicle and the following items were seized as evidence:

  • A sawed-off shotgun
  • Ammunition
  • Brass knuckles
  • Drug Paraphernalia

The original complainant who was the driver of the vehicle, also a 28-year-old male, faces the following charges:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regs
  • Possession of a Weapon

He was released by way of an Undertaking.

Investigators believe this shooting was in relation to a drug dispute and this investigation is continuing.
