Winnipeg Transit will soon launch the winter schedule featuring some bigger changes.

Winnipeggers will have access to late-night service in most On-Request Zones as the seasonal schedule changes on Sunday, December 14. Additional service will also be offered for routes with lateness and capacity issues. The changes that will be implemented are a direct result from feedback from Winnipeggers since the Primary Transit Network was launched

“Winnipeggers have been clear about what’s working and what needs improvement,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham in a news release. “Winnipeg Transit is using that feedback, along with what they see on buses and at transit stops every day, to keep improving the new network.”

“Thank you to all the residents who have provided feedback on how to improve our transit system. The winter schedule incorporates much of what you’ve shared,” said Councillor Janice Lukes, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Public Works in a news release.

“Please continue sending your feedback to Winnipeg Transit over the winter. This will guide staff as they begin working on updates to the spring schedule.”

Hours will be adjusted in 10 On-Request zones to address gaps in night service.

  • All zones that currently operate after 7 p.m. will extend service until around 2 a.m. on weekdays and Saturdays
  • On Sundays and holidays, those zones will operate until around 12:45 a.m.
  • Boundaries for Zone 103 will also expand so passengers can take On-Request to Garden City Shopping Centre and Walmart
  • Hours for daytime-only On-Request zones (104 and 110) will not change

Schedules have also been rewritten for buses that were regularly late and added capacity for full routes.

Other key details set to take effect December 14 include:

  • Full rewrites of schedules for D12, D13, D16, and F8, with 49 service hours added to these routes on weekdays
  • New trips added to six school-serving routes experiencing capacity issues
    • An extra before and after school trip for routes 557, 649, and 678
    • An extra before school trip for routes 442, 694, and 885
