Winnipeg Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey will make his Olympic debut in 2026.
The alternate captain for Winnipeg was one of 19 players named to Canada’s final roster on Wednesday.
The Winnipeg Jets shared the news on social media, saying, “Josh Morrissey, Olympian.”
In 37 games this season, the Calgary native has six goals and 24 assists.
NHL players have not participated in the Olympics since 2014.
While Jets’ fans are excited to cheer the defenceman on, many were commenting that another Winnipeg player should have made the team.
“Congrats Josh! Sad for Mark [Scheifele]… He deserves to be there, he’s playing exceptionally well this season,” a fan commented on social media.
Fans will get their first look at Team Canada in the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 on February 12 against Team Czechia, then play Team Switzerland on February 13 and Team France on February 15.
