The Winnipeg Jets secured a 5-4 overtime victory against the Washington Capitals, with Josh Morrissey scoring twice, including the game-winner in OT.

It was a showdown of the top two teams in the league, with the Jets holding a one-point lead over the Capitals going into the game.

The Jets’ power play got things started with a goal from Cole Perfetti at 9:13 of the first period. A few minutes later, Dylan Samberg added another for Winnipeg, and both Perfetti and Samberg finished the night with a goal and an assist each.

Former Jet Pierre-Luc Dubois put the Capitals on the board early in the second period at 1:12.

Alex Ovechkin scored his 877th NHL goal in the third period to tie the game at 4, sending it to overtime. Ovechkin is now 18 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record of 894 goals.

Despite blowing a two-goal lead in the third period, the Jets stayed resilient. Mark Scheifele, Vladimir Namestnikov, and Neal Pionk each recorded two assists.

Connor Hellebuyck, who will represent the United States at the Four Nations Face-Off, made 25 saves in the victory.

With a perfect three-for-three road trip, the Jets now hold a two-point lead over the Capitals for first place in the NHL. The team will return home for two games before the league breaks for the 4 Nations Face-Off from Feb. 12-20.
